The Kansas City Royals found themselves in a deep hole early in the game, trailing 7-0 after the first inning and 8-0 by the fourth. However, they mounted an incredible comeback and emerged victorious with a final score of 10-9 over the Seattle Mariners. This thrilling game saw the Royals chip away at the lead and ultimately secure the win in the ninth inning with a walk-off fielder’s choice. Their record now stands at 38-26, just three games behind the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians.
Seattle’s early scoring barrage came in the first inning, where Royals starter Daniel Lynch IV struggled to get outs. Despite being a strike away from getting out of the inning unscathed, Lynch allowed several runs to score, including a two-run homer by Ryan Bliss. The Mariners continued to add to their lead, eventually going up by eight runs after a Ty France RBI double in the fourth inning.
Kansas City began their comeback in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs, and added three more in the sixth to narrow the gap to 9-7. In the ninth inning, key hits from Nick Loftin, Garrett Hampson, and MVP candidate Bobby Witt Jr. helped tie the game. A dramatic double play ball in the bottom of the ninth secured the win for the Royals, marking only the fifth time in the past 50 seasons that a team has won a game after trailing by seven runs or more.
Bobby Witt Jr. received a well-deserved Gatorade shower from his teammates following the thrilling victory. His standout performance, along with the resilience of the team as a whole, solidified this game as one of the most memorable of the season for the Royals.
