Billy Bodin, who scored 17 goals in 89 league games for Oxford United, has announced his departure from the club after their promotion to the Championship. The 32-year-old forward signed a new two-year contract in June 2022 after joining from Preston North End in 2021. Bodin netted five goals in 36 League One matches this season, with most of his appearances coming off the bench.
Despite making an appearance in the first leg of Oxford’s play-off semi-final against Peterborough, Bodin did not feature in the second leg or the final victory over Bolton at Wembley. The former Wales international expressed his gratitude to his teammates and fans for their support over the past three years, stating that his nine goals in all competitions and the promotion were worth it.
In a message shared on social media, Bodin acknowledged the challenges of being sidelined towards the end of the season but remained positive about his time at the club. He wished Oxford United and its supporters all the best for the upcoming season as he moves on from his time with the team.
