In response to heightened scrutiny and quality control issues, three top executives at Boeing will be leaving the company. This includes chief executive Dave Calhoun, board chair Larry Kellner, and head of commercial airplanes Stan Deal. Calhoun will depart at the end of 2024, while Kellner will not stand for re-election at the upcoming shareholder meeting and Deal will retire effective Monday.

Calhoun, who had previously served on Boeing’s board of directors for 10 years before becoming chief executive in 2020, was known for his operational skills, communication style, and crisis management abilities. However, the incident involving an Alaska Airlines jet where a piece fell off midflight on January 5th brought to light issues with Boeing’s manufacturing and quality control processes, leading to the need for new leadership.

As this is a developing story, updates on the situation will be provided as more information becomes available.
