In testimony to the public inquiry into the COVID-19 pandemic, former chief scientific advisor Patrick Vallance revealed that Boris Johnson struggled to understand much of the science during the coronavirus pandemic. Vallance stated that he and others faced repeated difficulties getting Johnson to comprehend the scientific evidence and advice. However, he also noted that leaders in many countries had similar problems in understanding the science.
Johnson was forced to resign as prime minister in September 2022 following revelations of rule-breaking parties at his Downing Street residence during the pandemic. He is scheduled to address the inquiry before Christmas.
