West Indies opening batter Brandon King has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2024 due to a side strain he suffered during a match against England on June 19. He had to retire hurt after smashing 23 off just 12 balls in that game. Left-hand opening batter Kyle Mayers will replace King in the squad for the rest of the tournament. Mayers is expected to join the squad on Saturday.

King, who has been the team’s leading run-scorer in T20Is since 2023, has been a key player for West Indies. His absence will be a big blow to the team’s fortunes in the tournament. Mayers, who has had a decent 2024 so far, will need to step up and fill in King’s shoes.

West Indies started the Super Eight stage of the tournament with a loss against England. After their match against USA on Friday, they will face South Africa on Sunday. Despite their strong performance in the group stage, losing King to injury will be a challenge for the team as they look to continue their winning streak in the T20 World Cup.
