Brittney Griner’s return to the Phoenix Mercury has significantly strengthened the team. After a delayed start to the season due to a fractured toe, Griner is finally making her season debut, starting in the upcoming game against the Minnesota Lynx. This will be the first time this season that Phoenix will have its ideal starting lineup, with Griner and guard Bec Allen both back on the court.
Last season, Griner averaged impressive stats of 17.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game after her return from her imprisonment in Russia. Despite a difficult season, the Mercury are currently 4-6 this year, showing improvement even without Griner on the court. Allen, who was signed from the Connecticut Sun last offseason, also missed a few games due to a concussion.
Griner’s return comes at a crucial time, as the Mercury face a tough test against the Lynx who are leading the Western Conference with a 7-2 record. Her presence on the court will undoubtedly impact the team’s performance and help push them towards a successful season.
