This weekend, a Science Olympiad team from Sheepshead Bay middle school is excited to showcase their skills at the National Science Olympiad Tournament. I.S. 98 Bay Academy’s team has earned the prestigious opportunity to compete at this national level event on Saturday, becoming the first New York City public school to do so.
Out of 6,000 middle school Science Olympiad teams, only 60 qualify for the National Tournament, making this achievement even more remarkable. The dedicated team members have worked tirelessly throughout the year, competing and studying college-level science topics to reach this milestone.
Competing student George Tatishvili expressed the importance of their participation, stating, “You’re motivating other schools to take up this opportunity and go to nationals, too.” The Science Olympiad program at I.S. 98 Bay Academy is part of the School’s Out New York City program, which is funded by the city Department of Youth and Community Development.
As the team prepares to represent their school and city at the National Science Olympiad Tournament, they are proud to have earned this incredible opportunity through their hard work and dedication. Best of luck to the I.S. 98 Bay Academy Science Olympiad team as they compete on the national stage!
