The Philadelphia Phillies suffered a blow when they lost star player Bryce Harper to a strained hamstring, landing him on the 10-day injured list. The injury occurred during a game-ending groundout, causing Harper to limp off the field in discomfort. While the strain is considered low-grade, Harper may potentially return when eligible on July 9, although the team could decide to give him more time to recover through the All-Star break.
In addition to Harper’s injury, the Phillies also saw left fielder Kyle Schwarber exit the same game with groin tightness, resulting in his placement on the IL as well. Schwarber’s injury is less severe, with a likely return after 10 days. Manager Rob Thomson indicated that Harper’s injury status would be reassessed on Friday, while Schwarber’s injury was attributed to an off-balance throw from the outfield.
Despite the setbacks, both Harper and Schwarber have been performing well for the Phillies this season. Harper, in particular, has been a standout player and currently leads the NL in All-Star voting for the first base position. The team is hopeful that both players will be back in action soon to continue their strong performances on the field.
