In the month of June, the Georgia Bulldogs have been performing well and their success continued with the commitment of Derrek Cooper, a four-star running back from Hollywood, Florida. Cooper chose Georgia over top programs such as Alabama, Florida State, and Miami. Known as an athlete who can play multiple positions, Cooper has mainly been playing as a running back in high school. Georgia’s running backs coach Josh Crawford was instrumental in recruiting Cooper and the plan is for him to continue at that position with the Bulldogs.
Cooper, who stands at 6 feet tall and weighs 190 pounds, attends Chaminade-Madonna Prep where he played as a receiver and safety. Even though he had limited opportunities as a receiver last year, he made an impact with nine catches for 71 yards. On the defensive side, he recorded 49 tackles and four interceptions. Joining five-star quarterback Jared Curtis, Cooper is the second commit in Georgia’s class of 2026. Coach Crawford praised Cooper’s ability to catch the ball and play receiver out of the backfield, a skill that aligns well with Georgia’s offensive strategy.
