Jeremie Frimpong, the right-back for Bayer Leverkusen and the Netherlands, recently spoke to ESPN about the transfer rumors linking him to FC Barcelona. Reports had emerged in Spain earlier in the week suggesting that the 23-year-old was a target for the Catalan giants in the upcoming summer transfer window. In addition to Barcelona, top Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are also reportedly interested in Frimpong.

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Frimpong remains unfazed, dismissing the rumors as just that – rumors. He emphasized that he does not pay attention to such talk and that anyone can say anything. The Dutch right-back had a standout season with Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24, contributing significantly to the team’s success under manager Xabi Alonso.

Frimpong’s impressive performances saw him score 14 goals and provide 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen. He is currently under contract with the club until 2027, with a reported release clause of €40 million, though it may have an expiration date.

While there may be interest from Barcelona in Frimpong, it appears unlikely that they will pursue a move for him at this time. The Catalan club are said to be focusing on retaining Joao Cancelo on loan for another season and potentially including a buy option. Additionally, Julian Araujo is expected to serve as a backup right-back after a successful loan spell at Las Palmas. With other options like Hector Fort and Jules Kounde available, Frimpong’s transfer to Barcelona seems unlikely.
