Business thief steals $21K worth of copper wiring and check

In St. Louis, a man was arrested for breaking into a business in Dutchtown and stealing copper wiring and a check worth $21,900. The burglary occurred at Neighbors Exterior Solutions in the 4700 block of Virginia Avenue on June 27. The owner of the business reported the burglary to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress and discovered surveillance video of Jason J. Collins, 41, taking copper wire from a trailer and then breaking into the establishment and stealing the check. Prior to his arrest, police found a bag containing 20 milligrams of fentanyl in Collins’ sock.

Charges filed by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office against Collins include second-degree drug trafficking, first-degree property damage, theft of $750 or more, and resisting arrest for a felony. Collins will continue to be held in jail without bond until his trial. His detention hearing is scheduled for July 10.
