C.J. Stroud believes John Metchie has the potential to be exceptional

C.J. Stroud was caught off guard when he learned about the trade that brought Stefon Diggs to the Texans on April 3. Waking up to the news, he realized that he now had another talented receiver to add to an already stacked group of offensive weapons. Along with Diggs, the Texans also have Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Robert Woods, and Noah Brown in their receivers room. In addition, they have John Metchie, a second-round pick in 2022 who had been overshadowed due to a leukemia diagnosis during his rookie season.

Despite Metchie’s challenges in the past, Stroud believes that he should not be overlooked. After missing his rookie season while undergoing cancer treatments and dealing with a torn ACL, Metchie entered last season with a hamstring injury. However, for the first time in three seasons, he is fully healthy and ready to make an impact on the field. In the previous season, Metchie played 310 offensive snaps in 16 games and caught 16 passes for 158 yards.

Stroud praised Metchie’s mindset and work ethic, noting that he is not only a great football player but also a great person. He expressed confidence in Metchie’s abilities and believes that he has the potential to shine on the field. Stroud emphasized the camaraderie and talent present in the Texans’ receiving room, stating that he wouldn’t want anyone else but these players by his side. Overall, he is confident that Metchie will continue to impress and showcase his skills on the field.
