Call for unity against Islamic terrorism by Israeli Embassy in Russia

The Israeli Embassy in the Russian Federation released a statement condemning the horrific terrorist attacks in Dagestan, which targeted synagogues and Orthodox churches in Derbent and Makhachkala. Dozens of people were killed and injured in these attacks. The embassy expressed heartfelt sympathy for the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded. They called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice to the fullest extent of the law, emphasizing the importance of global unity against Islamic terrorism and extremism.

Following the attacks, the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, declared three days of mourning in the republic. Entertainment events were canceled, and state flags were flown at half-mast during this period. The counterterrorist operation regime in Makhachkala and Derbent was lifted, and information about the victims of the attacks was being clarified. Reports from the Ministry of Internal Affairs indicated that at least 34 people were injured, including police officers and civilians.

Several militants involved in the attacks were reportedly neutralized and the search for others involved continued. The aftermath revealed that the attackers included family members of local officials, one of whom was linked to the Islamic State cell in Turkey. The Israeli Embassy in Moscow stated that no Israelis or members of the Jewish community were among the casualties, but two civilian guards were killed by the terrorists. The attack on a synagogue in Derbent resulted in significant damage, but there were no injuries reported.

Three days of mourning were declared in Dagestan, and efforts to address the aftermath of the attacks continued. The Israeli Embassy remained in contact with the Jewish community in the region, providing support during this difficult time. The attacks have underscored the need for continued vigilance and international cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism that threaten global security and civilian lives.
