Cameron Heyward is entering his 14th season in the NFL, all of which have been played with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite being under contract for $16 million this year, Heyward is seeking an extension to continue playing for another three years. While he has expressed a desire to remain with the Steelers for the duration of his career, Heyward recently admitted that there is a possibility he could finish his career elsewhere, such as Cleveland where he has family ties.
The news of possibly playing for another team did not sit well with Steelers fans, prompting Heyward to clarify his intentions in a statement shared on social media. He expressed his goal of being a Steeler for the remainder of his career, while also extending Father’s Day wishes to his followers. Heyward’s previous comments about wanting to be a “one-helmet guy” further emphasize his commitment to the Steelers organization.
Negotiations regarding Heyward’s contract extension have been slow, leading to his absence from the team’s offseason activities. The Steelers have a policy of halting contract talks once the season begins, which means Heyward’s future with the team beyond his current contract remains uncertain. As a first-round pick by the Steelers in 2011, Heyward is set to become a free agent in 2025.
