U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito recently visited the nearly completed expansion project at West Virginia Health Right on Charleston’s East End, a project she helped secure federal funding for. Capito expressed her amazement at the comprehensive services provided by the beautiful, doubled-in-size building, the dedicated volunteers, and the great staff during her tour of the facility.

Capito played a key role in securing $4 million in Congressionally Directed Spending for the expansion project in September 2022, which is part of the $12 million total expansion cost. She emphasized her support for programs related to substance abuse, mental health, and diabetes care that will be offered at the expanded clinic.

Health Right CEO Angie Settle shared that the project has been in the works since 2019, with significant fundraising efforts to provide additional care to underserved populations. The new facility is expected to serve over 60,000 patients annually, up from the current 44,000 patients served. Settle highlighted the need for more space at the clinic and the new additions, including areas for behavioral health, substance use disorder, medical services, specialty care, vision care, and dental services.

The expansion at the East End clinic is a significant milestone after years of planning and fundraising efforts. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new facility is scheduled for June 26 at 3 p.m. It represents a substantial increase in capacity and services to meet the healthcare needs of the community in Charleston.
