Capitol Region Medical Center receives glowing review at Health Affairs Committee meeting | Mid-Missouri News

The Capitol Region Medical Center, which was acquired by MU Health Care in January, was anticipated to experience a loss of $12.7 million in fiscal year 2024. However, the medical center has managed to reduce this loss to $7.6 million, which is $5.1 million less than the original projection. The UM System Board of Curators Health Affairs Committee received reports on MU Health Care and the School of Medicine during a meeting held on Thursday. Eric Maze, who is the public relations manager for MU Health Care and the MU School of Medicine, attributed this reduction in loss to the increased physician and nurse staff, as well as new programs at the hospital since the integration.

Ric Ransom, the chief executive officer of MU Health Care, described fiscal year 2024 as a significant year for MU Healthcare, highlighting a period of historic growth and investment in both the integration of Capitol Region Medical Center and the opening of the Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center. The new MU Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center, which opened earlier this month, cost $230 million, representing the largest investment in an MU Healthcare facility.

Several appointments were announced during the meeting, including Kevin Kane as the new senior associate dean for medical education at the MU School of Medicine. Kane, who had been serving as the interim senior associate dean for medical education since October, is also a professor of clinical family and community medicine. Tonya Johnson was also introduced as the incoming chief operating officer of MU Health Care. Johnson, who currently holds the position of senior vice president and chief operating officer for Southcoast Health, will assume her new role on July 1. Greg Damron was appointed as the chief financial officer for MU Health Care, having previously served as the vice president and chief financial officer for the academic division of Banner Health, a nonprofit healthcare system based in Arizona. Damron will also begin his new position on July 1.
