Eight Norwegian cruise passengers found themselves stranded on the African island state of São Tomé and Príncipe as their cruise ship sailed up the west coast of Africa. The group, including a pregnant woman, was left behind after a tour delay caused them to miss the ship’s departure.

Among the stranded passengers were Jill and Jay Campbell, a couple from South Carolina, who were touring the island when the ship left without them. Despite efforts to contact the ship’s captain and the local Coast Guard for assistance, they were not able to rejoin the ship.

The Campbells, along with six others, spent days trying to catch up with their cruise ship, facing challenges such as a lack of medication and accepted credit cards. They were forced to rely on their Visa card to pay for food and accommodations, spending thousands of dollars in the process.

After a 15-hour journey through six countries, the group attempted to meet the ship in Gambia, but were unsuccessful due to low tide. They made another attempt near the Senegalese coast, where they hope to finally reunite with their cruise ship and continue their journey.

The shipping company released a statement blaming the passengers for missing the boarding time and failing to return to the ship when required. Despite the unfortunate situation, the company emphasized the importance of guests following the designated boarding times to avoid such incidents in the future.
