The Carson City Sheriff’s Office recently discovered card skimmers at a business in Carson City and is warning that there may be skimmers installed at other businesses in the area that have not yet been found. Skimmers are devices that capture account numbers and pin numbers when customers insert their cards for payment. In this case, skimmers were found at an east Carson City business.

The CCSO is encouraging all businesses to check their point-of-sale keypads for any suspicious devices that may be skimmers. If a skimmer is found, businesses are asked to contact non-emergency dispatch at 775-887-2677 in Carson City and avoid tampering with the device. It is important for shoppers and business patrons to be vigilant about their credit/debit cards and bank accounts, and to contact their financial institution immediately if they notice any suspicious transactions.

If you believe you have been a victim of a skimmer, it is crucial to report it to law enforcement during business hours and follow the guidance provided by your financial institution regarding card cancellation, replacement, and reporting. Anyone with information regarding the skimmers is urged to contact the sheriff’s office or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office emphasizes the importance of being alert and proactive in protecting your financial information from skimming devices. Stay informed and report any suspicious activity to help prevent fraud and protect your personal data.
