The City of Champions celebrated its 13th title of the 21st century on Friday with a championship parade for the Boston Celtics. The parade marked the Celtics’ 18th NBA championship, their first since 2008, following their victory in the 2024 NBA Finals over the Dallas Mavericks. Celtics players like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown brought the heat to the parade with their actions and attire.
The parade route was packed with over 1 million fans, many of whom brought creative and humorous signs to troll various figures in the NBA. From Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to Joel Embiid and Brian Scalabrine, no one was safe from the playful jabs of Celtics fans. Even Derrick White, who suffered a mouth injury in Game 5 of the Finals, received support in the form of a sign at the parade.
The age-old Celtics-Lakers rivalry was also referenced in some of the signs, as Boston surpassed Los Angeles to become the team with the most NBA championships in history. Even Kristaps Porzingis, who was initially a controversial pick by the New York Knicks in the 2015 NBA Draft, was not spared from the fan’s creativity.
One notable presence at the parade was “Sign Kid,” who has attended 13 Boston championship parades in his 22 years on Earth. The parade was a fitting celebration of the Celtics’ victory and the city’s rich sports history.
