Chamber Honors the Legacy of Berlusconi

The Chamber of the Camera gathered to commemorate and remember Silvio Berlusconi on the anniversary of his passing. Paolo Barelli, the leader of the Forza Italia group, spoke first and his words were met with long applause from the majority deputies, especially those from FI. However, not all deputies shared positive sentiments about Berlusconi. Riccardo Ricciardi, a member of the M5s party, criticized Berlusconi’s legacy, particularly citing his conviction for tax fraud and his strained relationship with the judiciary. Ricciardi questioned Berlusconi’s political and liberal revolution and accused him of polluting the relationship between politics and the judiciary.

In response to the criticisms, Tajani defended Berlusconi’s political legacy, emphasizing his sense of institutions and ability to work with different political parties. He highlighted the importance of respecting political opponents and fighting ideas rather than attacking individuals. Tajani also noted Berlusconi’s participation in the last Draghi government, challenging negative moral judgments about working with the former Prime Minister.
