Chambers County Health and Wellness Center debuts new pavilion

The Chambers County Community Health and Wellness Center (CCCHWC) recently celebrated the completion of a new pavilion project with the help of a $15,000 grant from the Coosa Valley Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council. The pavilion will serve as an additional space for informational classes for the community. Representatives from the RC&D Council held a plant and seed giveaway to mark the occasion.

The CCCHWC is a collaborative effort between the Chambers County Commission, the city of LaFayette, and Auburn University’s Rural Outreach Project. Its primary goal is to address health disparities in rural communities by offering health and wellness information and services. Over the past year, the center has provided various health screenings, programs, and access to medical care through an onsite telehealth station.

The Coosa Valley RC&D grant was awarded in partnership with the city and county to fund the expansion project. During the event, Ciara Turner, the Executive Director of Coosa Valley RC&D, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support community initiatives. Senator Randy Price highlighted the importance of giving back to rural communities and commended the project’s success in bringing the community together.

The pavilion project in LaFayette has also set an example for other health and wellness centers across the state. The dedication and hard work of LaFayette Street and Sanitation Superintendent George Green and his team were instrumental in bringing the project to fruition. Numerous local officials, including Senator Price, Representative Fincher, and Chambers County Commission Chairman Williams, attended the check presentation ceremony, along with other city representatives. The completion of the new pavilion marks a significant milestone in enhancing health and wellness resources for the community.
