The world’s “ugliest dog” has been crowned after a competition held in Petaluma, California, aiming to celebrate all dogs, regardless of their appearance. This year’s winner is Wild Thang, a Pekingese who won the title due to his unique traits caused by early distemper, resulting in his front teeth not growing in and his tongue permanently hanging out.
Wild Thang’s owner shared that he is a sociable pup who loves being around people and other dogs, using his platform to advocate for the importance of pet vaccinations. The runner-up in the competition was Rome, a 14-year-old Pug, who also won the people’s choice award. Third place went to Daisy Mae, a senior dog of an unknown breed.
Rome, who resides in a senior sanctuary, spends time visiting people in hospice care, while Daisy Mae, another rescue dog, enjoys chasing squirrels and sunbathing. The contest also aims to raise awareness about rescue dogs and highlight the fact that all dogs, regardless of appearance, deserve love and care.
