The City of Boise has recently approved a master plan design for Charles F. McDevitt Youth Sports Complex, bringing a number of new amenities to the park to give it a more “neighborhood feel”, in addition to the current sports features. The additions will include a new nature playground, basketball court, bike trails, trees, and more. The city will begin the bidding process for a developer in the Fall of 2024.

The park is also being stocked for anglers ahead of Free Fishing Day on June 8th. The park, which already sees a lot of traffic with activities like skating, scooting, and baseball, is expected to get even busier.

The director of Parks and Recreation, Doug Holloway, mentioned that the park is already active and the neighborhood wanted to continue with that theme. The design process involved input from almost 900 neighborhood responses, helping to shape the new amenities that will be added to the park.

Marlene Grabow, a Boise resident living in the neighborhood for 25 years, expressed excitement about the development of the previously unused land. She mentioned how she loves to see children playing in the existing playground and believes that enhancing the education and activity opportunities for youth is beneficial.

The addition of a neighborhood park component to the sports complex will cater to a wider range of people within the community, providing a space where families can bring their children for various recreational activities. This new plan aims to give McDevitt Youth Sports Complex a more inclusive and community-oriented atmosphere.
