Charlottesville Radiothon Raises Over $82,000 for UVA Health Children’s Fund

The Battle Building at UVA Health Children’s recently hosted the 2024 UVA Health Children’s Week of Giving, which included the successful Cares for Kids Radiothon. The radiothon raised an impressive $82,091 through the participation of five local radio stations. Inspiring stories from UVA patients’ families, child life specialists, and hospital leaders were shared during the broadcast.

This year’s Cares for Kids Radiothon was the first since the COVID-19 pandemic to feature a live phone bank manned by local volunteers. The radiothon aired for two days on various Charlottesville Radio Group stations. The funds raised from the event will support a number of important initiatives at UVA Health Children’s.

Some of the initiatives that will benefit from the funds raised include the expansion of the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric intensive care unit, UVA’s family-centered care program, the launch of the UVA Health Children’s Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Care clinic, and support for the pediatric cardiology and pediatric cancer programs.

Erin Chandler, UVA Health’s Associate Director of Development for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Corporate Philanthropy, expressed gratitude for the community’s support during the Week of Giving. The event was made possible by sponsors such as Children’s Hospital Advisory Board, Dairy Market, Crutchfield, and others.

Overall, the UVA Health Children’s Week of Giving raised an impressive total of $110,734, which includes the proceeds from the radiothon and an online fundraiser. Chandler extended thanks to the numerous donors, volunteers, patients, families, and UVA Health team members who contributed to the success of the event.
