Check This Out: Japanese Ski Jumper Smashes World Record with Longest Jump Ever

Recently, Ryōyū Kobayashi, a world-renowned athlete from Japan, achieved a new milestone by breaking the world record for the longest ski jump. He is considered one of the most successful ski jumpers of all time, and now he can also claim the title for the longest flight ever by a man on skis. On April 24, he launched himself down the largest ski jump ever created, gliding through the air for nearly 10 seconds before touching down at a remarkable distance of 291 meters, surpassing the previous record by 37.5 meters. In a video, Kobayashi expressed his elation, calling the achievement a dream come true and a source of strength for his future.

Before this historic jump, Kobayashi’s personal best was 252 meters, just slightly below the world record. In order to surpass this milestone, his team had to build a bigger ski jump hill. After careful research and planning, they identified Akureyri as the ideal location and constructed a special ramp to facilitate the long jump. Approximately 120,000 cubic meters of snow were removed to prepare the hill for the event. Despite initial challenges, Kobayashi found the natural slope in Akureyri to be perfect for his record-breaking attempt.

Training extensively to adjust to stronger winds, perfect his posture for the extended flight, and reach a speed of about 105 kilometers per hour, Kobayashi faced various challenges in preparation for the jump. Weather conditions played a crucial role in the success of the attempt, as they could significantly affect the trajectory and distance achieved. He made multiple attempts before his final flight, where he surpassed the world record and exclaimed, “This is ski flying,” in a video published by Red Bull celebrating his achievement.
