A couple of weeks ago, Colin Prater, a biology teacher at Cheyenne Mountain High School, was finishing up the school year. Despite his teaching responsibilities, Prater managed to secure one of the final spots in the U.S. Open through a qualifier in Oregon. Reflecting on his achievement, Prater expressed his surprise and happiness at the opportunity, as golf has been a passion of his for many years.

Describing the moment as “probably one of the best days” of his life, Prater shared that realizing his childhood dream of playing in the U.S. Open was surreal. Having played golf for 26 years, he had aspired to compete in the tournament since he was 15. Achieving this goal felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience that he may never forget.

Despite his newfound fame as a golf player, Prater remains humble and modest. He acknowledges that his rock-star status is unfamiliar and hopes to return to his quiet, relaxed demeanor after the tournament. As he processes the reality of his achievement, he is grateful for the support and recognition he has received from his students and peers at school.

Looking ahead, Prater sees this experience as an opportunity to inspire his students to pursue their dreams and goals. He aims to use his participation in the U.S. Open as a lesson in determination and hard work, emphasizing that anything is achievable with dedication and effort. Excited about the upcoming school year, Prater hopes to impart this message to his students and encourage them to believe in themselves.
