After a series of off-field incidents, the Kansas City Chiefs have decided to part ways with defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the team has informed Buggs of his release.

Buggs faced legal trouble following charges of second-degree domestic violence and second-degree burglary. Allegedly, he broke into the apartment of the mother of his child and dragged her down the stairs. Prior to this incident, he was arrested in an animal cruelty case.

The 27-year-old was originally drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and has also spent time with the Raiders and Lions. Buggs ended last season on the Chiefs’ practice squad and signed a reserve/futures contract with them.

With his release, Buggs is now a free agent, though the possibility of an NFL suspension or placement on the commissioner’s exempt list makes it unlikely that he will be signed by another team anytime soon. This decision by the Chiefs contrasts with their handling of wide receiver Rashee Rice, who has remained on the team despite his own off-field issues this offseason.
