Mrs. Lallier’s kindergarten classroom at Royal Oaks Elementary in Woodbury, Minnesota has been receiving cards and letters from all over the world ahead of Valentine’s Day. The students read the mail and then place the cards on maps outside the classroom. The teacher, Katie Lallier, was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming response to her simple request for Valentine’s Day mail.
The goal was to get at least one card from all 50 states, but the project quickly grew. Students were thrilled by the mail they received, with some of the letters coming from as far away as India. They learned about schools with pools and learned about new countries. Currently, only three states remain – Delaware, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.
The students have learned the importance of kindness and love, using the project as a way to show how many kind people there are in the world. They have learned about the significance of Valentine’s Day and are excited to show their parents when the project is completed. Mrs. Lallier plans to continue the project with future classes.
