Chinese Teen Pan Breaks Men’s 100m Freestyle World Record

Chinese teenager Pan Zhanle made history at the world championships in Doha by breaking the men’s 100m freestyle world record with a time of 46.80 seconds. He broke the record leading off his team during the 4x100m freestyle relay to set up his teammates for gold.

Before his recent success, Pan had only one world medal and three Asian Games titles. Italy and the United States took silver and bronze, respectively. The women’s 4x100m freestyle relay was won by the Netherlands, with Australia taking silver and Canada taking bronze.

Kim Woo-min of South Korea won gold in the men’s 400m freestyle, while New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather was victorious in the women’s 400m freestyle.
