Clarence Brown III, a chiropractor in Chicago, was convicted of fraudulent federal health care charges after a two-week trial. The owner of Dr. CB3 Wellness, Inc. and Apex Integrated Medical Center, Ltd., Brown was found guilty on all nine counts of health care fraud on April 12. Each count is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Brown submitted false claims to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois between 2016 and 2020 for health care services that were never provided to patients. Some of the claims were for services supposedly rendered when Brown was out of state. He created fake medical documents to support his claims and billed BCBS $1.3 million for services that were not actually provided to two families.
Prosecutors allege that Brown received $750,000 from BCBS for the false claims. Brown is scheduled to be sentenced on July 23, 2024.
