The Boston Red Sox have placed right-hander Chris Martin on the 15-day injury list due to anxiety. The move was retroactive, with the 38-year-old Martin’s last appearance being on May 30 against Detroit, where he gave up four hits, including two home runs, and three earned runs in one inning of work. So far this season, Martin has a 4.22 ERA in 21 appearances.
Over his 11-year career, Martin has a 3.42 ERA in 345 games, playing for teams such as Colorado, the New York Yankees, Texas, Atlanta, the Chicago Cubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and most recently the Red Sox. He has spent the last two seasons with Boston.
In order to fill Martin’s spot on the active roster, the Red Sox have recalled right-hander Zack Kelly from Triple-A Worcester. Kelly will now have the opportunity to contribute to the team in Martin’s absence.
