Christian McCaffrey, the best running back in football, is also known as one of the best offensive weapons in the game. Despite his exceptional performance, he was not compensated accordingly, with only $11.8 million in 2024. However, all of this has changed as the 49ers and McCaffrey have agreed to a two-year extension, making him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
Under the new extension, McCaffrey will be under contract for the next four years with an average annual salary of $19 million. This is a significant increase from his original four-year, $64 million extension that he signed in early 2020 with the Panthers. When he was traded to the 49ers during the 2022 season, his contract remained the same, but now it has been revised to reflect his true value as a top player in the league.
McCaffrey’s performance on the field speaks for itself, with over 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns in 2023. In 2019, he achieved a rare feat by becoming only the third player in NFL history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season, joining the ranks of Marshall Faulk and Roger Craig.
Stay tuned for more details on the breakdown of McCaffrey’s new contract with the 49ers.
