Christian Scott to be called up by Mets for Wednesday start against Nationals

Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza confirmed on Monday that right-hander Christian Scott will be called back up to start on Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals. Mendoza stated that it was time for Scott to take his place in the rotation, as the organization has always seen him as a big league pitcher.

Scott, who is one of the Mets’ most promising pitching prospects in recent memory, had been called up earlier in the season and made five starts before being sent down prior to the team’s trip to London in June. The Mets wanted to keep Scott pitching regularly, so they sent him down to Triple-A with the intention of limiting his pitch count during games.

During his time in Triple-A, Scott did not pitch more than 5.0 innings in any game, even though he only gave up four earned runs in four starts. Mendoza explained that they had initially kept his pitch count low to keep his arm in shape, but they gradually increased it with the expectation of his return to the majors.

In his five major league appearances this season, Scott posted a 3.90 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP, striking out 25 batters in 27.2 innings. With Tylor Megill now back in Triple-A, Scott is expected to remain in the rotation. Additionally, there is a possibility that the Mets could switch to a six-man rotation once Kodai Senga returns from injury in the second half of the season.
