Google is ready to disable support for Manifest V2 on the Chrome extensions platform, as 85 percent of developers have already transitioned to Manifest V3. This new version aims to enhance security by providing more transparency on extension permissions and improving their performance.
Initially scheduled for deployment in 2022, the transition from Manifest V2 to V3 was postponed due to migration issues. Google has now set June 2024 as the start date for removing extensions based on the outdated version. The company acknowledges the challenges of such migrations and thanks the developer community for their input.
Developers still using Manifest V2 will receive notifications in Chrome Beta, Dev, and Canary, informing them that their extensions will soon be incompatible. Additionally, they will lose any ‘Outstanding’ badges they may have had for adhering to recommended extension practices. Failure to adopt Manifest V3 will result in the disabling of extensions.
Google reports that 85 percent of active Chrome Web Store extensions have already upgraded to Manifest V3. Notable extensions like AdBlock and uBlock Origin have successfully made the switch. Despite initial concerns about compatibility issues, the majority of developers have successfully transitioned to the new version.
In addition to the Manifest V3 transition, the content also includes various firearms and related products for sale, as well as articles on US poker players, NFL Draft busts, casino gaming, and entertainment in New Zealand.
