Manchester United Women have announced that their captain, Katie Zelem, will be leaving the club this summer after her contract expires. Zelem was a part of the team when they turned professional in 2018 and she helped lift both the FA Women’s Championship and the Women’s FA Cup during her time with the club. In her six years at United, she made 161 appearances and scored 32 goals, becoming the club captain in her second season.
A statement released by the club on Thursday expressed their gratitude to Zelem for her dedication and service to Manchester United. They wished her the best of luck in her future endeavors. Zelem’s departure follows that of Mary Earps and Lucía García, who are also leaving the club on free transfers this summer. Manchester United Women will now look to rebuild their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
