Cohere Health strengthens collaboration with Humana

Cohere Health and health insurer Humana have announced an expansion of their 2021 partnership, which focused on automating the prior authorization process for musculoskeletal issues. The partnership now includes diagnostic imaging and sleep services in addition to musculoskeletal services.

The Cohere Unify Platform utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up the prior authorization process by utilizing predictive technology and clinical intelligence. Before submitting requests, the platform offers suggestions to providers, with the goal of reducing insurers’ denial rates.

The partnership between Cohere Health and Humana began with a pilot program in 12 states, initially focusing on musculoskeletal services. After showing promise, the program expanded to all 50 states. Last year, Humana rolled out Cohere’s offerings nationwide and added cardiovascular and surgical services to the program.

The recent announcement highlights the inclusion of diagnostic imaging and sleep solutions in the services offered by Humana through Cohere Health. CEO of Cohere Health, Siva Namasivayam, expressed excitement about the expanded partnership and emphasized the importance of evidence-based guidelines and advanced technology in aligning patient services within care pathways for faster diagnoses.

Cohere Health secured $50 million in equity funding in February, bringing its total raise to $106 million. The company has experienced rapid growth, with previous funding rounds in 2021. Additionally, Cohere has partnered with Oracle to develop genAI services aimed at automating business processes.

Earlier this month, Cohere announced integration into Epic, allowing providers nationwide to submit prior authorizations directly through their electronic health record (EHR) workflows. This integration aims to streamline the prior authorization process and improve overall efficiency in healthcare.
