Infineon Technologies and South Korean shipbuilder HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE) have joined forces through a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU). This collaboration is part of a larger project that aims to develop applications for the electrification of marine engines and machinery using energy-efficient power semiconductor technology.
KSOE is already dedicated to creating environmentally friendly, decarbonized ship technology that utilizes electricity and hydrogen. Building on this foundation, the company will work with Infineon to develop power solutions for propulsion drive technology, which is essential for ship electrification. Power semiconductors will enable precise control of multiple power modules, such as large-capacity propulsion drives.
In this partnership, Infineon will offer KSOE technical expertise and guidance in semiconductor power modules and system solutions. The company will also share insights on new semiconductor trends related to marine applications. By working together, KSOE aims to improve the reliability and performance of marine vessels’ propulsion drive technology. Ultimately, this collaboration will contribute to environmental sustainability by advancing the electrification of ships.
