Copa América Group D has officially kicked off with the conclusion of the first round on Monday evening. In the opening matches, Colombia faced off against Paraguay, while Brazil was set to play against Costa Rica.
Colombia emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 against Paraguay. The scorers for Colombia were Muñoz in the 32nd minute and Lerma in the 42nd minute. Paraguay managed to get one goal back through Enciso in the 69th minute. Despite Paraguay’s late push, Colombia held on to secure all three points in the group stage.
Néstor Lorenzo’s team dominated the early stages of the match, putting immense pressure on Paraguay’s defense right from the start. They were rewarded for their efforts with Muñoz’s goal, followed by another from Lerma before the halftime whistle.
Although Colombia seemed to be cruising to victory, Paraguay managed to score a goal through Enciso, causing some anxiety for the Colombian team. A late penalty shout from Colombia was dismissed after a VAR check, but Paraguay was unable to capitalize on their chance to equalize.
The excitement continues in Group D with Brazil’s upcoming match against Costa Rica. Stay tuned for more updates on the Copa América tournament.
