Jyoti Sulekha Venam and Ojas Pravin Deotare have won back-to-back gold medals at the 2023 World Cup, continuing India’s dream run at the Shanghai event. The mixed-team duo defeated South Korea to claim their second consecutive World Cup victory, having won gold in the Antalya leg last month. Pratamesh Joker also won gold for India in the individual combined events, while Avnith Kaur took bronze. Jyoti Ojas got off to a strong start in the competition, winning three gold medals, including one in the individual category. She now has her sights set on the World Archery Championships in Berlin.
Jyoti and Ojas shot an impressive 156-155 against the veteran Korean pair of Kim Jong-ho and Oh Yoo-hyun, tying for 39 of 40 each in the first three ends. Ojas complemented Jyoti well, making up for her few misses and pulling out the best in crunch moments. Jyoti shot a 10 on the final arrow, and it took Oh Yoo-hyun’s final arrow measurement to determine the outcome of the match.
In the individual combined event, Pratamesh Joker defeated former world champion Mike Schlesser of the Netherlands in a thrilling 149-148 final. He also defeated No. 1 seed Kim Jeong-ho and No. 8 seed Choi Young-hee of South Korea in the earlier rounds. Avnith Kaur narrowly beat top-seeded Oh Yoo-hyun of South Korea in the third round, but lost to England’s Ella Gibson in the semi-finals. She then defeated Turkey’s Ipek Tmluk to clinch the bronze medal.
