The NFL announced this week that Pittsburgh would host the 2026 NFL draft, while Green Bay will host next year’s event. Since the draft went on the road in 2015, several cities including Dallas, Chicago, Nashville, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Las Vegas, and Detroit have had the opportunity to host the draft. For many years, the NFL draft was held in New York City at Radio City Music Hall. With the next two host cities already determined, attention is turning to the 2027 NFL draft and the potential host city.

According to a report by Nicki Jhabvala and Mark Maske of The Washington Post, Washington, D.C. is making a push to host the 2027 NFL draft. Representatives from D.C. and officials from the Washington Commanders are confident that they can secure the event in 2027. However, they face stiff competition from other NFL cities also vying to host the draft.

Despite the enthusiasm from those involved in the D.C. effort, league sources have cautioned that the competition is fierce as many cities with NFL teams are eager to host the prestigious event. The Commanders were among 12 teams present in Detroit during the 2024 NFL draft to conduct site surveys, indicating their strong interest in hosting the draft.

Hosting the NFL draft has proven to be economically beneficial for previous host cities, making it an enticing opportunity for Washington, D.C. and the Commanders. The decision on the 2027 NFL draft host city is still pending, but Washington, D.C. remains a strong contender in the race.
