Barely hours after a bridge in Baltimore collapsed due to a container ship hitting it, conspiracy theories began to circulate about a deliberate attack, despite authorities finding no evidence of criminal activity. The Singapore-flagged ship struck a pier of the Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday, causing it to collapse. Six workers who were repairing potholes on the bridge are missing and presumed dead.

Various theories emerged on social media platforms implicating different groups, such as terrorists or foreign agents, in the supposed attack. Influencers like Andrew Tate and conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones also added fuel to the speculations, suggesting cyber attacks and hinting at the possibility of a Third World War.

However, Singapore port authorities reported that the collapse was due to a “momentary loss of propulsion” of the ship, as seen in video surveillance footage. Despite this explanation, rumors continued to circulate, with some linking the incident to conflicts in Gaza or questioning diversity initiatives by companies.

Authorities, including Baltimore police chief Richard Worley and Maryland Governor Wes Moore, reiterated that there was no indication of a terrorist attack. Despite these assurances, the conspiracy theories continued to gain traction online, with various interpretations of the incident being put forward by different individuals and groups.
