The groundbreaking for a new building at UW-Eau Claire signals an exciting future for students and faculty. Landon Dirkes and his friends, along with professors Derek Gingerich and Eric Henderson, are looking forward to the modern amenities the new facility will offer. Currently, they work in the outdated Phillips Hall, which everyone agrees is in need of an upgrade.
The new building will be a state-of-the-art facility that will house a variety of majors, including Biology, physics, computer science, and nursing. It will also facilitate collaboration between the university and Mayo Clinic Health System. Chancellor James Schmidt is excited about the innovative and collaborative opportunities the new building will provide.
The project is valued at over $340 million and will feature five stories with a rooftop greenhouse and observatory. It will include updated classrooms, labs, and a nursing simulation lab. The new building is projected to open in 2027, replacing the aging Phillips Hall.
The construction of the new building is a testament to the perseverance and dedication of the professors and students who have worked in Phillips Hall. Once the new building is complete, Phillips Hall will be demolished to make way for more green space and parking. The future is bright for UW-Eau Claire with this new cutting-edge facility on the horizon.
