During the Super Eight phase of the tournament, Bumrah’s exceptional bowling skills were on full display as he helped India secure victories and finish at the top of the group. In a span of four days and across three different grounds, Bumrah took a total of 6 wickets for just 49 runs.
In the match against Afghanistan in Barbados, Bumrah proved to be a nightmare for their batters. He cleverly used change-of-pace deliveries to dismiss Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai early in the Powerplay. Bumrah continued his dominance by also removing Najibullah Zadran and conceding only seven runs in his four overs.
Moving on to the match against Bangladesh in Antigua, Bumrah once again showcased his skill and talent. He bowled brilliantly at the death, preventing any late surge from the opposition and helping defend India’s target of 196. With his off-pace deliveries, Bumrah got rid of opposition skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Rishad Hossain, finishing with figures of 2/13.
In India’s final Super Eights match against Australia in St Lucia, Bumrah once again proved to be the difference maker. Despite runs flowing from the Australian batsmen, Bumrah’s expertise at the death overs was crucial. His off-cutter in the 17th over led to Travis Head’s dismissal, all but sealing India’s top-spot finish in the group. Bumrah’s consistent and impactful performances truly put the ‘Super’ in Super Eights for India.
