Clariant and Lummus Technology have been chosen by Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd. to supply their CATOFIN catalyst and process technology for the dehydrogenation of isobutane at a new plant in Huizhou City, China. The CATOFIN technology is licensed by Lummus Technology, while the catalyst is provided by Clariant. This marks the first time Huizhou Boeko will use the CATOFIN technology at one of their sites. The scope of the project includes the technology license and basic engineering. Upon completion, the plant will produce 550,000 million tpy of net isobutylene, serving as feedstock for the production of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).

The CATOFIN process is highly efficient, utilizing fixed-bed reactors operating at optimal pressure and temperature for maximum catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane. This results in high yields of isobutylene at low investment and operating costs. Jens Cuntze, Business President Catalysts and APAC at Clariant, expressed excitement about delivering their CATOFIN catalyst to this first Huizhou Boeko plant and anticipates a successful partnership. CATOFIN offers reliability, productivity, and increased profitability for the plant.
