Controversial N.J. School’s Latest Scandal: Family Business Profiting from Taxpayer-funded Uniforms

College Achieve Public Schools is located at 508 3rd Avenue in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The school has come under scrutiny after an investigation by NJ Advance Media found that a husband-and-wife team running the school had used a family-owned business to produce school apparel at taxpayer expense, in violation of New Jersey school ethics laws. The investigation revealed that the school officials had used another closed store as an intermediary to hide the work being done by the family-owned business. Invoices obtained by NJ Advance Media showed that the purchases amounted to $143,274 between December 2021 and January 2024.
