The beginning of the 2024 season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers is just 68 days away. Surprisingly, none of the players on the current roster will be wearing the No. 68 jersey this season. This forced Cornhuskers Wire to look back in time for today’s countdown spotlight.

The spotlight is on Nebraska Hall of Fame offensive lineman Mike Mandelko. Mandelko was an All-Big Eight offensive lineman for the Huskers in 1982 under head coach Tom Osborne. He played a key role in helping the Huskers average nearly 400 rushing yards per game that season, contributing to their impressive 12-1 record.

In 2014, Mandelko was honored by being inducted into Nebraska’s Hall of Fame. His contributions to the team and his exceptional skills on the field are still remembered and celebrated today.
