Open enrollment for health insurance is now available through Covered California. For returning customers, the enrollment period lasts until December 15th, and new enrollees have until January 31st to apply.
Congressmember Salud Carbajal recently visited to discuss open enrollment, conveying that the cost of health insurance has never been more affordable than it is under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Dana Gamble, from County Public Health’s Primary Care and Family Health Division, joined Carbajal to emphasize the low cost of plans, which can be as little as $10 a month for some income groups.
Since only eight percent of Americans are currently uninsured, which is the lowest uninsured rate in U.S. history, both Carbajal and Gamble urged citizens to take advantage of the affordable coverage provided by ACA.
The ACA enrollment period spans from November 1 to January 31, with a deadline of December 15th for returning customers to maintain uninterrupted coverage. Failure to enroll on time will result in an income tax fee based on family size, with a significant fee of $700 next year for a single individual making $2,500 a month.
