The Cowboys hosted a workout on Tuesday for former first-round picks, cornerback Gareon Conley and Deandre Baker, as reported by Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. Joining them in the workout were linebackers Willie Harvey Jr. and Noah Dawkins. Conley, who played for the D.C. Defenders in the UFL this year, was a first-round pick for the Raiders in 2017. After two years with the Raiders, he was traded to the Texans in 2019 and then placed on injured reserve in September 2020, causing him to miss the entire season. As a result, Conley has not played an NFL game in four years.
Baker, who was Conley’s teammate this year, has seen action with the Chiefs in 2020 and 2021. He was drafted in the first round by the Giants in 2019 but was later waived after being charged with armed robbery in 2020. The charges against Baker were eventually dropped, allowing him to potentially make a return to the NFL.
Both Conley and Baker have had ups and downs in their NFL careers, but their talent has not gone unnoticed as they continue to work towards a possible comeback. The Cowboys’ workout offers them an opportunity to showcase their skills and prove that they have what it takes to contribute to a team at the professional level once again.
