Cowboys release Martavis Bryant, halting his comeback effort

The Dallas Cowboys have made the decision to release wide receiver Martavis Bryant, marking the end of his latest attempt to return to the NFL after a significant absence from the league. Bryant had signed with the Cowboys practice squad last season but did not make it to the active roster. Despite this, he was kept on a futures contract after the season had concluded.

At 32 years old, Bryant’s last NFL game was played on November 11, 2018, with the Oakland Raiders before they relocated to Las Vegas. He has faced multiple suspensions due to substance-abuse violations throughout his career. Bryant was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014, where he made an immediate impact by catching eight touchdowns in his rookie season.

However, his career soon faced setbacks with suspensions for substance abuse violations. Despite returning from suspension and having a career-high 765 yards in 2015, Bryant was banned for the entire 2016 season. Following a trade to the Raiders in 2017, Bryant played 15 games for Pittsburgh before facing another suspension late in the 2018 season. He then signed with the Cowboys almost five years after his initial suspension.

Ultimately, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to part ways with Martavis Bryant as he continues to navigate challenges and strive for a return to the NFL.
