The Chicago Cubs made several roster moves ahead of their series against the Atlanta Braves, including calling up infield prospect Luis Vázquez from Triple-A Iowa. Vázquez, a 14th-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, has been performing well in Triple-A, slashing .262/.360/.397 with three home runs and 11 RBI’s in 39 games.
In order to make room for Vázquez and activate shortstop Dansby Swanson from the injured list, outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong and infielder Miles Mastrobuoni were optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Swanson had been dealing with knee issues and had not played since May 7, while Crow-Armstrong had been serving as a reserve outfielder and pinch-runner.
If Vázquez were to get into a game, he would be making his MLB debut and is likely to be used as a reserve infielder due to his positional versatility. Swanson, who has struggled at the plate this season, will be looking to bounce back against his former team. Crow-Armstrong had been making an impact with five stolen bases and nine RBI’s before being optioned, while Mastrobuoni struggled at the plate in his short stint with the Cubs.
